Junebug Ink Named Louie Awards Finalist for Celebrating Black Culture

At Junebug Ink, every card begins with a simple belief: culture matters. The stories we tell, the history we honor, and the people we celebrate deserve thoughtful design and meaningful expression. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to share that Junebug Ink has been named a finalist at the Louie Awards for the second year in a row.

Our Black History Month greeting card has been selected as a finalist in the Celebrating Black Culture category at the 37th annual awards, presented by the Greeting Card Association. Widely considered the greeting card industry’s highest honor, the Louies recognize excellence in design, writing, and creativity across the global stationery community.

This year’s competition included more than 1,000 entries from 185 companies worldwide, making the recognition especially meaningful for an independent brand like Junebug Ink.

A Card That Honors History with Intention

The nominated Black History Month card reflects Junebug Ink’s signature approach—pairing refined design with cultural storytelling.

At first glance, the design is striking in its simplicity: a bold black-and-white grid motif highlighting the month of February, the month dedicated to celebrating Black history in the United States. The aesthetic is modern and minimalist, yet it carries deep meaning. The visual rhythm of the grid evokes both structure and reflection—an invitation to pause and acknowledge the legacy, resilience, and influence of generations of Black leaders, artists, educators, activists, and innovators.

Inside, the message is intentionally simple: “Happy Black History Month.”

Those four words create space for the sender’s own voice while honoring the profound cultural contributions that Black Americans have made to the nation and the world.

The card has resonated with a wide audience—from individuals sending notes of appreciation to educators, corporations, and community organizations recognizing the importance of cultural history in everyday life.

Design That Celebrates Culture

Since its founding, Junebug Ink has been committed to creating stationery that celebrates Black American culture with elegance, authenticity, and care. Each card is designed not only to mark an occasion, but to acknowledge identity, heritage, and shared experiences.

Founder Jacklyn Monk created Junebug Ink after a long career in publishing, bringing a storyteller’s eye to the greeting card world. The brand’s aesthetic blends editorial clarity with thoughtful design, resulting in cards that feel both contemporary and timeless.

“Being recognized by the industry’s highest honor—again—is deeply meaningful,” Monk says. “This card was created to honor Black history with elegance, intention, and cultural respect. To see that vision resonate within the broader greeting card community is incredibly affirming.”

The Legacy of the Louie Awards

The Louie Awards—officially known as the International Greeting Card Awards Competition—have celebrated creative excellence since 1988. Named for pioneering lithographer Louis Prang, who introduced the American Christmas card in the 1870s, the awards honor the unique moment when art, editorial voice, and design come together to capture human emotion.

This year’s ceremony will take place on August 17, 2026, kicking off the Greeting Card Association’s annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky.

Celebrating the Moment

For Junebug Ink, this nomination is more than an industry milestone—it’s a reminder that culturally meaningful design resonates.

It affirms that greeting cards can do more than mark occasions. They can honor history, celebrate identity, and strengthen connection.

And that’s exactly what Junebug Ink set out to do.
